DEFRA Approved Stoves

There are certain areas of the uk that are decided by the government to be DEFRA approved stove areas in these areas only Defra approved stoves can be used if you wish to burn wood. You can still burn Anthracite (smokeless fuel) in a None Defra approved stove if you wish to but you can never burn coal or coke in a Defra area

Defra Approved Stoves Have Been Deemed to be “Clean Burning” and therefore emit lower carbon output than a standard stove and are then subsequently “Defra Approved” or Exempt.
